I’m new to WACH, how do I join a team?

Each team that plays in the WACH is self-run. To join a team we highly recommend you register as a free agent through the Player/Coach link under the Registration page. Once registered, we’ll roster you as a free agent which will allow teams to pick you up for games and maybe even roster you on their team.

Looking for teams in a specific area? Once you're registered, head over to the Team Finder page, located under Contacts. There you will find all currently registered teams and their contact information.

You can also join the Colorado Women's Hockey Discord to learn about opportunities for playing in WACH and other leagues.

When does the season start?

The season starts in October and ends in March/April.

I'm 17 years old, can I join the WACH?

Unfortunately, no. We require players to be 18 years or older.

What's this Free Agency thing?

Free Agency was setup to encourage new players, or those without a team, to join the WACH. Benefits of joining the WACH include access to Team Finder (located under the Contacts page) and allows teams to easily identify and contact subs for games. The Free Agency rule as defined in the Rules & Regulations is below. You can find all Rules & Regs under the Documents page.

7. FREE AGENT PLAYER(S)

A. A Free Agent player is defined as a player who is not rostered on any team. A Free Agent is required to be USA Hockey registered and must be registered with WACH.

B. A Free Agent will register with the WACH in the division in which they are most qualified to play in as defined in Section 2.1.A. Should a Free Agent be found to be playing in a division that is inappropriate for their skill level, the WACH Board reserves the right to immediately move the Free Agent to a division level it deems appropriate.

C. A Free Agent may play a maximum of 5 games with any team within that division. A Free Agent may also Substitute in higher divisions as per the rules defined in Section 4.6. i. Should a Free Agent play more than 5 games with any team, that game will be forfeit for the team in which the Free Agent played.

D. A Team may roster a Free Agent at any time, in accordance with Section 4.2.

I need to request a certificate of insurance, what do I do?

The form to request a Certificate of Insurance is maintained on the USA Hockey website. Select the Rocky Mountain District form and fill it out. In the Team/Club line, please note "Member of WACH, COH0065" beside your Team name. For Event, you can list "Games and Practices" and event date should be the extent of the WACH season at a minimum (October to April).

Rinks will often request to be named as the additional insured / certificate holder. Please check with your rink if they have specific needs for the Certificate of Insurance request.

Please send your request to the WACH board by email. We are working with our USA Hockey contact to submit these requests in one batch at the beginning of the season to streamline the process.

Ralph Bammert is our current USA Hockey Rocky Mountain District point of contact for the certificate of insurance.

What is the WACH's policy on Transgender athletes?

The WACH has adopted USA Hockey's policy regarding Transgender athletes. Specifically, as it pertains to adult women's hockey, the USA Hockey policy states:

Adult Hockey Restricted to Men Only or Women Only. For Adult hockey leagues or teams that are restricted by gender to either Men only or Women only, a transgender athlete shall be permitted to participate according to the gender with which the athlete identifies, based on the gender shown in their USA Hockey Registration. USA Hockey, an Affiliate and/or a governing league or team may request that a transgender athlete’s eligibility be reviewed by the Committee described in Section 3 below.
